When I came back from long meditation retreats in Asia, I found myself rushing through daily rituals that I had learned to experience with full presence. This performance explores the feeling of living in a constant rush. We are constantly busy and rarely find time to fully immerse ourselves in simple life experiences. It often feels like we are in a never-ending race, seldom experiencing moments of stillness or true presence. We fail to appreciate the current moment and instead rush through our tasks to move on to the next one. Our focus is primarily on doing, rather than simply being. We become faster and more efficient, but pay less attention to the experience of living.
The performance embodies this experience through the simple act of taking a shower, a daily ritual we often rush through without being present. Through this performance, I aim to highlight the restlessness and agitation that come with constant rushing, while also emphasizing the importance of finding stillness and being fully present at each moment. It is at these moments that we can experience the joy of being alive and appreciate every moment breath by breath.
